SSI React Right First Aid and CPR Course

SSI React Right teaches you how to respond when someone is hurt or unwell, at the dive site, on the boat or at home. It covers checking a casualty, CPR and first aid. It is open to anyone, not just divers. We run it at our shop in Paihia as a one-day course, and it meets the first aid and CPR requirement for the SSI Stress and Rescue course.
Who It's For
Divers getting ready for Stress and Rescue, parents, boaties, coaches, and anyone who needs a first aid and CPR certificate for work. You don’t need to be a diver, and you won’t get wet.
What You Learn
- Primary assessment: checking the scene and the casualty
- CPR
- First aid and stabilisation while you wait for help
- Optional: using an AED (defibrillator)
- Optional: giving emergency oxygen
Course Structure
The course runs over one day at our shop in Paihia and normally takes no more than 8 hours. You start with SSI’s digital learning, which you can do at home before the day. On the day we go through the theory together, then practise the skills in realistic scenarios.
The core course covers primary assessment and CPR, then first aid and stabilisation. You can also add the AED and emergency oxygen modules, which we recommend for divers. Your SSI React Right certification lasts two years, so refresh it every two years to stay current.
Common questions
Do I need to be a diver?
No. React Right is open to anyone aged 12 or over. You don’t need any diving experience.
How long does it take?
One day at our shop in Paihia, normally no more than 8 hours. You can do the SSI digital learning at home before the day.
How much is it?
$200.
Does it count for the Stress and Rescue course?
Yes. It meets the first aid and CPR requirement for SSI Stress and Rescue. If you need it, we can run it the day before your Stress and Rescue course starts.
How long does the certification last?
Two years. Refresh it every two years to stay current.
Can I add AED and oxygen training?
Yes. We recommend both for divers. Ask us about adding them when you book.

Freediving opens up a whole new underwater world. The Freediver course takes 2 days to complete, the first day starts in the class reviewing the theory completed online and then we head to the pool for the confined water session. The 2nd day is out on our boat Sentinel in Deep Water Cove putting to practice the skills learned in the pool and depth training.

If you are doing any dive training including Intro Dives or refreshers, please have a look at our Medical Form, if required you may need to get your doctor to sign you off as fit to dive, before completing the activity.
