Your Next Adventure Starts Here: SSI Advanced Open Water
Ready to dive deeper and expand your skills? The SSI Advanced Open Water course is your next step. This program is designed to build on what you’ve already learned, giving you a chance to try five different SSI specialty areas before committing to a full specialty certification. Best of all, it allows us to include two of New Zealand’s most famous wreck dives as part of your training!
This course is all about experience and personal discovery. You’ll complete five adventure dives, with your instructor guiding you through the academic knowledge and in-water skills for each one.
As part of your course, you’ll complete a Deep Dive and a Wreck Dive, which will extend your maximum depth limit to 30 metres. We’ll use these required dives to explore the iconic HMNZS Canterbury and Rainbow Warrior wrecks, giving you a unique and unforgettable training experience.
For your remaining three dives, you can choose from a range of exciting specialties like Underwater Navigation, Perfect Buoyancy, Marine Ecology, or Underwater Photography. It’s your choice—your adventure.
Why Choose SSI? The SSI system is built for today’s divers. You’ll get free access to the SSI digital materials, so you can complete your academic work at your own pace from your phone or tablet. There’s no final exam—just practical, hands-on learning that’s designed to make you a more confident and skilled diver.
With Paihia Dive you can include both the Rainbow Warrior and the Canterbury on your course. These wreck dives are some of the best in the world.

Freediving opens up a whole new underwater world. The Freediver course takes 2 days to complete, the first day starts in the class reviewing the theory completed online and then we head to the pool for the confined water session. The 2nd day is out on our boat Sentinel in Deep Water Cove putting to practice the skills learned in the pool and depth training.
Before diving with Paihia Dive please have a look at our Understanding The Risks form, as this will need to be completed before joining any of our trips. If you are doing any dive training including Discover Scuba Dives or refreshers, please have a look at our Medical Form, if required you may need to get your doctor to sign you off as fit to dive, before completing the activity.
