If you want to learn more about a particular side of diving or if you’re working towards the Master Scuba Diver rating then this will be your next step. Each specialty can normally be completed in 1-3 days.
Deep Specialty
Want to take your diving to the next level? You can with us! Our Deep specialty extends your range of diving down to 40m. This is a great course for those looking to reach some deeper dive sites or explore deeper parts of our wreck the HMNZS Canterbury. Over 4 dives we gradually increase your depth to the limit of recreational diving 40m. During the course we explore the use of hang tanks and pony bottles and have a good look at some deeper dive sites.
WRECK SPECIALTY
We have two of the best wrecks in the world on our doorstep which makes us a great place to earn your wreck specialty! This course can be done over 2-3 days and takes you through exploring, mapping and penetrating shipwrecks as well as buoyancy control and techniques to avoid disturbing silt or the wrecks inhabitants.We dive the HMNZS Canterbury and the Rainbow Warrior* so you get to see two very different wrecks with very different histories.
*The Rainbow Warrior is dependant on weather.
Common questions
What do I need to start?
An Open Water certification. SSI lets Open Water divers take any specialty.
How long does a specialty take?
Most take one to three days. The Wreck specialty is two to three days, and Deep is four dives.
Which specialties do you teach?
Deep, Wreck, Night Diving, Navigation, Perfect Buoyancy, Digital Photography, Marine Ecology (Naturalist), Boat Diving and Oxygen Provider.
How deep does the Deep specialty take me?
To 40 metres, the limit of recreational diving. Over four dives we build up your depth gradually and cover hang tanks and pony bottles.
Why do the Wreck specialty here?
You dive two very different wrecks, the HMNZS Canterbury and the Rainbow Warrior (weather permitting), and learn wreck mapping, penetration and buoyancy control that protects the wreck and its marine life.
Is gear included?
Specialties start from $749. If you need to hire gear, it’s an extra $100 for the course.

Take the first step in your dive career and become a Divemaster. Working closely with an Instructor, you’ll expand your dive knowledge and hone your skills as you become a dive professional.

Freediving opens up a whole new underwater world. The Freediver course takes 2 days to complete, the first day starts in the class reviewing the theory completed online and then we head to the pool for the confined water session. The 2nd day is out on our boat Sentinel in Deep Water Cove putting to practice the skills learned in the pool and depth training.
