SSI Dive Guide / Divemaster Course

Take the first step in your dive career and become an SSI Divemaster. Our program combines the SSI Dive Guide and Science of Diving certifications, giving you the leadership skills and advanced knowledge to confidently lead certified divers. Working closely with an SSI Instructor, you’ll expand your diving expertise and hone your skills as a true dive professional.
What can SSI Divemasters do?
- Work at local dive centers, on live-aboard dive boats, yachts and at exotic resort locations
- Assist SSI Instructors with student divers in training
- Lead certified scuba divers on guided dive tours
- Teach and certify Snorkel Divers
- Conduct Scuba Skills Updates for certified divers
- Lead certified divers on guided dives during Discover Local Diving experiences.
- Teach React Right programs (First-aid, CPR, O2 First Aid, and AED) after successful completion of a React Right Instructor course

What Do I Need to Start?
- SSI Advanced Open Water (or equivalent)
- SSI Diver Stress and Rescue
- Current first aid and CPR training, such as SSI React Right
- SSI Deep Diving, Navigation, and Night and Limited Visibility specialties
- 40 logged dives
- Medical clearance signed by a doctor
- 18 years old
What Will I Do?
- Learn dive leadership through classroom and independent study sessions
- Complete water skills and stamina exercises in confined and open water
- Training exercises to test organisational and problem solving abilities
- An internship or series of practical training exercises
How Long Will it Take?
This varies from student to student. We typically see the Dive Master program completed between four weeks to three months.
What Course Materials Do I Need?
Your SSI Dive Guide and Science of Diving training materials are digital and included in the course. You use them through the MySSI app on your phone, tablet or computer, and keep access after you finish.

What’s the difference between the $1,800 and $2,800 options?
The $1,800 option is an internship, where you learn by working alongside our team. The $2,800 option is the standard, shorter course. The internship can be booked online; call or email us to book the course.
What do I need to start?
SSI Advanced Open Water (or equivalent), SSI Diver Stress and Rescue, current first aid and CPR training such as SSI React Right, and the SSI Deep Diving, Navigation and Night and Limited Visibility specialties. You also need 40 logged dives, a medical signed by a doctor, and to be at least 18. We can help you complete any of these along the way.
How long does it take?
It varies. Most people finish in four weeks to three months. Internships of 4 to 12 weeks are available for the right person.
What can I do once I’m certified?
Work at dive centres and on boats around the world, assist instructors, lead certified divers on guided dives, and run Scuba Skills Updates and snorkel programmes.

Freediving opens up a whole new underwater world. The Freediver course takes 2 days to complete, the first day starts in the class reviewing the theory completed online and then we head to the pool for the confined water session. The 2nd day is out on our boat Sentinel in Deep Water Cove putting to practice the skills learned in the pool and depth training.
